Drawing from her home-schooled advantage, Nicole Friday insists that her accidental culinary curriculum taught by her grandmother helped to shape her life as “foodie.” Growing up in a household steeped in Southern traditions, she was surrounded by different cooking styles, but the one constant was to always have something sweet to offer guests, even the uninvited ones. Keeping with family tradition, in 2010, Nicole founded The Cupcake Craze, a gourmet catering company. Inspired by her favorite desserts, Nicole launched a line of goodies that were your “favorite desserts turned cupcake,” from Lemon Meringue and Sweet Potato to Coconut Cream and Chocolate Soufflé. Not long after, her scratch-baked pastries became a weekly feature on Essence.com. Ultimately, Nicole was recognized by Essence Magazine as the “Cupcake Boss.” Nicole has contributed to Brides.com as a baking expert; and in 2010 was crowned the winner of Macy’s Battle of the Cupcakes.
Having appeared on ABC, TLC, ASPiRE, parents.com, Cupcakestakethecake.com, brides.com, madamenoire.com and NBC networks as well as Emmy Award winning The Kitchen on Food Network, Nicole turned her passion into a culinary career as a culinary instructor and food blogger. She partnered with prestigious enterprises such as Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Architectural Digest Home Design Show, Whole Foods, William-Sonoma, Macy’s and The New York Botanical Garden, where she regularly showcased her culinary prowess. Nicole has also been a featured chef at Food Network’s Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival and the New York Chocolate Show. She is the former host of Black Enterprise’s web series “Inside Dish.”
In 2011, Nicole launched a culinary series at Whole Foods Market entitled Around the World from Home, where her students traveled to international destinations on a plate. For years, Nicole has been passionate about food; she dishes her appetite on her blog, FridayTalksFood.com where she features recipes, celebrity interviews, food facts, product reviews and much more.
Nicole Friday is a graduate of Howard University. She attended the Institute of Culinary Education with a focus in food media and essentials in cooking.
